How It Works

percentage = (correct answers / total questions) × 100

Incorrect answers are total questions minus correct answers. The letter grade uses the default scale of A (90–100), B (80–89), C (70–79), D (60–69), and F (below 60).

Example

A test has 50 questions, and a student answers 45 correctly.

percentage = 45 / 50 × 100 = 90%, incorrect = 5, letter grade = A.

What letter grade scale does this use?

Can I enter a number of correct answers greater than the total questions?

No, the calculator will show an error if correct answers exceeds the total number of questions, since that is not a valid test result.

Does this account for partial credit?

No, this calculator assumes each question is worth an equal, whole point. If your test uses partial credit or unequal point values, use the total points earned as "correct answers" and total possible points as "total questions."

Can I use this for a quiz instead of a full test?

Yes, the math is identical for quizzes, tests, or any assessment scored as a fraction of correct answers out of a total.

Why is my percentage different from my teacher’s gradebook?
