How to Use This Tool

  1. Label each row with the day (optional).
  2. Enter your clock-in time using hour, minute, and AM/PM.
  3. Enter your clock-out time the same way.
  4. Enter any unpaid break length in minutes.
  5. Add a row for each day worked; your weekly total updates automatically.

How It Works

Each day’s hours are the time between clock-in and clock-out, minus any break, converted to decimal hours. If the clock-out time is earlier in the day than clock-in, the calculator assumes an overnight shift and adds 24 hours before subtracting.

Example

Clock in at 9:00 AM, clock out at 5:00 PM, with a 30-minute break.

9:00 AM to 5:00 PM is 8 hours. Subtracting the 30-minute break gives 7.50 hours.

Benefits

  • Handles overnight shifts automatically.
  • Add as many days as your pay period needs.
  • Decimal hours are ready to compare against your pay stub.

Important Notes

This tool totals hours only and does not calculate overtime pay, shift differentials, or apply any state-specific labor rules. Overtime and break requirements vary by state and employer — verify your pay against your employer’s payroll system or an official pay stub.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enter an overnight shift?

Just enter the clock-in and clock-out times as usual, for example 10:00 PM in and 6:00 AM out. The calculator automatically detects that the clock-out time is earlier in the clock than the clock-in time and treats it as the next day.

Does this calculator handle unpaid breaks?

Yes. Enter your unpaid break length in minutes for each day, and it will be subtracted from your worked hours for that day before totaling the week.

Does this calculate overtime pay?

No. This tool totals your hours only. Overtime rules vary by state, employer policy, and employment type, so this tool does not calculate overtime pay or make assumptions about legal requirements — check your pay stub or employer’s policy for that.

Can I add more than 7 days?

Yes, add as many day rows as you need — useful for a two-week pay period or a non-standard schedule.

Why does my total show a fraction of an hour, like 7.50?

Hours are shown in decimal form for easy totaling — 7.50 means 7 hours and 30 minutes. Use the time-to-decimal converter if you need to convert between the two formats.
