How to Use This Tool
- Name each grading category (optional).
- Enter your score in that category as a percentage.
- Enter that category’s weight, as listed in your syllabus.
- Add a row for every category; your weighted grade updates automatically.
How It Works
Each category’s score is multiplied by its weight. Those totals are added together and divided by the sum of all weights:
weighted grade = Σ(score × weight) / Σ(weight)
Example
Tests are 40% of your grade and you scored 90%. Homework is 60% of your grade and you scored 80%.
weighted grade = (90 × 40 + 80 × 60) / (40 + 60) = (3600 + 4800) / 100 = 84%.
Benefits
- Handles any number of grading categories.
- Flags when your weights do not total 100%.
- Updates instantly as you adjust scores or weights.
Important Notes
This calculator provides an informational estimate. Some instructors drop the lowest score in a category or apply curves — those adjustments are not included here. Confirm your final grade against your instructor’s official gradebook.
